Torsion springs snap from cycle fatigue, not bad luck — a 10,000-cycle spring lasts 7–9 years in a typical Toronto household. We carry .250, .2625 and .283 wire in 27", 30", 32" and 34" lengths on every truck. Replaced in matched pairs — replacing only the broken one means the second snaps within months.
Extension springs on older single-car doors get replaced in pairs with safety cables run through the spring (code requirement — stops the spring from becoming a projectile when it snaps). We size by door weight, not by the old part number.
Standard 10,000-cycle springs handle ~3 cycles/day for 9 years. For families using the garage as the main entrance — or commercial doors — we upsize to 20,000-cycle oil-tempered springs. Roughly double the lifespan.
